More powerful than you can possibly imagine

Studying faces and caricature with, surprise, Star Wars characters. I kinda like how Lando and Tarkin are facing in different directions. Makes ‘em look like they’re some sort of crime fighting duo.

Forceful Form

June 17th, 2008

I picked up a copy of “Drawing Force” for my birthday. One exercise in the book that’s really neat is drawing the figure without looking at the page, but instead of a traditional blind contour drawing where you just follow what you see, you’re drawing the energy and movement of the figure. Here’s one I did earlier today. I’m particularly proud of how it shows the squash and stretch of the obliques :)

Getting my hands dirty

June 8th, 2008

Jessica got me Henry Yan’s figure drawing book for my birthday, so now I’m inspired to play with charcoal again. I’m learning to hold the charcoal in the “proper” drawing position, and also how to draw in wide, confident strokes rather than jerking the pencil back and forth. Much tougher than it sounds..

Postcards!

June 6th, 2008

My second promotional mailing was sent out yesterday. All that’s left to do now is fret over whether they’ll actually make it to their destinations. I mailed to almost 60 magazines this time, and I’m already adding several more to the list for later. Some just wanted postcards, others wanted printed samples. Here’s hoping I get some responses!
